Jamie came out to our house soon after a call was made for an estimate. He showed us pictures of his previous work, offered ideas, listened to my ideas, and presented options for challenges posed by job. Next, Jamie provided a detailed quote with a quick turnaround. Once the job was contracted, he worked diligently to get the permit and pre-order long lead materials. Was sensitive to existing construction situation, including protecting new driveway, working with tight spaces for transporting materials, repairing damaged sprinkler lines, and maintaining a clean job site. Matched brick with original brick used for house. Purchased and installed door for existing porch at no extra cost. Jamie worked with us to design two decks and a pergola. He then built all of them for us. The decks are made from Eon (a synthetic material) and the pergola is constructed from Cedar. They are large structures, the decks are approximately 1300 square feet in total and the pergola measures about 25’by 20’. The work was done in conjunction with having a patio built and major landscaping so it was a complex project involving multiple people and companies.

We interviewed multiple contractors and visited with their references before choosing Jamie and Cedar Works. What caused us to choose Jamie was the quality of the work we saw and the recommendations from his customers. The work he did was beautiful and his work was head and shoulders above the others we looked at. Jamie gave us great advice and guidance all through the process even giving us some tips on working with other contractors, for example obtaining a lien release. We had a cement block porch with a cement cap that was poorly constructed by the builder of our home on the back of our house that needed to be removed and replaced. We wanted to replace it with a deck and wanted to enlarge the surface area to make it more usable. After a year of no shows, etc. by other contractors for estimates. I joined Angie’s list and decided to call Cedar Works. Jamie came out promptly and within a week, had CAD drawings and estimates of the cost of the job. Jamie began the permit process as soon as we submitted our deposit and within a month, he was able to start work. The tear out crew was finished within two days (not an easy tear out) and all material was removed and post holes placed for the deck. After the county approved the post hole depth, Jamie’s crew was back the next day to begin construction. They worked for almost ten days to finish a large deck with steps, were very neat, courteous, and responsive to any questions or problems that occurred. They were able to point out and correct damage that had occurred to the outside sheathing of the house from water runoff from the old porch and the charges added on were very reasonable (less than $100.) The crew worked during a very hot humid period of weather and was diligent about getting the deck finished. In addition to constructing the deck, the house roof partially extends over this area and requires support from columns, Jamie had specified two large columns instead of the three small ones on the original porch, which opened the space up, but required additional reinforcement from under the deck which his crew communicated to him and subsequently performed. Jamie and the Cedar Works crew were the ultimate professionals and a pleasure to work with from start to finish on our deck project. We have a rather large (971 sq ft) deck that needed new decking. We began getting quotes and interviewing potential companies in April of 2017. We ended up with 4 quotes for cedar and 3 for composite before the end of Summer 2017. By the time we were done doing our due dilligence, we decided to wait until Spring 2018 to have the work done.

When we called Jamie in March, 2018, he had our original quote along with drawings of the modifications we wanted to make. He made another trip out the house to go over the project and make some additional changes we wanted. While, the quote from Cedar Works wasn’t the lowest, it was competitive and we liked that Cedar Works keeps the same crews working for them throughout the year.

When the crew arrived to do the work, they went over the scope of the project with us one more time, gave us a work schedule, and took great care in moving our belongings off the deck before beginning work. They removed the old decking and had it hauled away the same afternoon. The work site was cleaned up while they worked and at the end of every day. The project turned out great and we are absolutely 100% pleased with the deck and the service provided by Cedar Works.

Jamie stopped by after we had a few days to inspect the work to make sure we were happy. We didn’t find anything wrong with the craftsmanship and anticipate no problems going forward.
